What is the difference between a Sports Medicine physician and an Ortopaedist/Traumatologist?
-
The main determinant of the difference is their patients: as a sports physician works primarily in sports and treats athletes who are exposed to high physical loads and who need to recover as quickly as possible after an injury, the main treatment goal of a sports physician is to help them to achieve this: i.e. to optimally reduce the treatment time and provide a complete rehabilitation of the injury in order to prepare the body for new heavy loads.
-
Both specialists treat musculoskeletal injuries. However, sports doctors are limited to non-surgical treatment, while orthopaedic traumatologists are highly-trained in operative treatment
-
Sports physicians seek the expertise of orthopaedic traumatologists for surgical intervention as a last resort.
How long does the consultation last?

The duration of the consultation varies, but as usual is around 45-60 min.
