Cardiac Rehabilitation
What is Cardiac Rehabilitation?
Cardiac rehabilitation is a medically supervised program designed to help people recover from some cardiovascular conditions. It combines physical exercise, education, and psychological support.
What are the indicstions for Cardiac Rehabilitation?

Cardiac rehabilitation is indicated for patients with:
-
Myocardial infarction
-
Heart attack
-
Coronary artery bypass surgery
-
Heart valve repair or replacement.
-
Coronary angioplasty
-
Stent placement
-
Ischemic heart disease
-
Chronic stable angina
-
Chronic heart disease
-
Or other heart conditions
-
Certain congenital heart diseases
-
Other Cardiomyopathies
What are the Benefits of Cardiac Rehabilitation?
Cientifically confirmed benefits of cardiac rehabilitation program include:
-
Improved recovery after a heart attack or heart surgery
-
Reduced risk of future heart problems
-
Prolonged life expectancy
-
Improved cardiovascular fitness and strength
-
Improved quality of life
-
Improved mood and mental health
How is Cardiac Rehabilitation Performed?
It typically includes:
-
Supervised Exercise:
-
Aerobic (cardio) exercises
-
Strength training
-
-
Education:
-
Nutrition
-
Medications
-
Lifestyle
-
-

-
Ongoing Support:
-
Regular follow-up
-

What Phases does Cardiac Rehabilitation have?
Cardiac rehabilitation consists of three phases:
-
Phase I: Clinical Phase
-
Generally it lasts for about one week soon after a cardiovascular event or completion of the intervention and is carried out in the hospital setting.
-
-
Phase II: Outpatient Phase
-
It typically comprises 24 to 36 sessions with frequency of 3 days per week. The main component of this phase is the tailored program of progressive monitored exercises (see below for detailed explanation).
-
-
Phase III: Maintenance phase
-
Phase III lasts a lifetime and involves more independence and self-control. It is recommended to keep contact with the clinic to monitor cardiovascular health.
-
Which Phase is performed at Cardiomedsport?
At Cardiomedsport we carry out the Phase II, but also we keep continuing monitoring of the development of the Phase III.
How the exercise is monitored in Cardiac Rehabilitation?
The main objective of this program is the strengthening of the heart. This is done through progressive exercises that must be closely monitored to ensure patient safety.
Typically, the following components are monitored:
-
Heart Rate: Patients wear a heart rate monitor during exercises, ensuring that they stay within a target heart rate zone.
-
Blood Pressure: Blood pressure is measured before, during, and after exercise to ensure it remains within a safe range.
-
Perceived Exertion: It is the patients' subjective perception of how hard they find the exercise.
-
Oxygen Levels: Checking oxygen amount in blood (saturation) by pulse oximeter ensures that the body is getting enough oxygen during exercise.
-
Supervision by Healthcare Professionals: At all time the exercise is closly supervised by trained and experienced healthcare professional.
-
Electrocardiogram (ECG): In some cases ECG is monitored during exercises.
